Trailed by paps, celebrity mums rely on dependable solutions to look their best. So, which failsafe fixes can busy mums steal?

FEARNE COTTON

'If I’m feeling lazy, I’ll wear sunglasses, a hat and a big coat and no one will ever know if I look like death underneath’

Remember that parenting mantra, ‘Just good enough is good enough’? Well the same applies to getting up and dressed in the morning. Yes, there are women who look perma-polished on the school/gym/supermarket run, but you don’t have to. For mere mortal mums who don’t have a) the entourage or b) the inclination to get up and showered at 5am every day, take a leaf out of Fearne’s book (no pun intended) and add a few emergency accessories to your wardrobe.

We love the recent collections from the high- end high street saviours. Check out Whistles’ wide-brim sun hats, £50, and trans-seasonal felt fedoras, £60, and Jigsaw’s completely covetable spring coats. We’ve got our eye on the navy Collarless Column, £229 and the ivory Belted Cocoon, £249.

BEYONCE

‘Sometimes I put a little gold eyeshadow in the inner corners of my eyes – it makes you look more awake’

This is one of the oldest beauty tricks in the book and immediately helps to make tired eyes pop, while also using a little smoke-and-mirrors style distraction to compensate for any under- or inner- eye shadows. You can nail Beyoncé’s failsafe peeper perker-upper by investing in two invaluable pieces of kit, both by the make-up legend Charlotte Tilbury. First up, her Long Lasting Easy Cream Eyeshadow, Eyes to Mesmerise in Jean, £22. The clever cream-to-sheen formula is perfect for creating a fresh, ingénue look: simply run it along your lashline and into the inner corners using her nifty Eye Smudger brush, £25.

JENNIFER LOPEZ

‘I stay out of the sun and use bronzers and self- tanners instead’

FAKE, DON’T BAKE Terrifyingly, sun damage (think pigmentation and age spots) can add a whopping ten to 12 years onto our perceived age, so take Jen’s advice and swap the sun-worshipping for a little relaxation in the shade.

Also, make SPFs your NBBF (that’s new beauty best friend). Choose a skin- protecting formulation of SPF 30 or higher (FYI, leading dermatologists recommend SPF 30), and apply it religiously every day after moisturiser and under foundation.

Neostrata Sheer Physical Protection SPF 50, £34  gives light but broad-spectrum defence against damaging UV rays, and the sheer finish is a great base for make-up. Layer it under Chanel Soleil de Tan Chanel, £32 for a soft, golden glow without compromising your complexion.

KATE HUDSON

‘I always clean my face, put a moisturiser on right away and let it soak before doing anything else... I really think staying hydrated is everything’

NVEST IN THE BEST Simple skincare and a regular, sustainable routine are the two best things to keep your complexion tip-top. Follow Kate and make twice-daily cleansing and moisturising non- negotiable. Forget expensive cleansing products; go for simple but highly effective formulations such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, from £5.99.

Money is better spent on a tailor-made plan, ideally prescribed by a respected dermatologist. Investment here will always reap the most skin-perfecting rewards, and nine times out of ten will include a protecting antioxidant such as vitamin C, and a nourishing moisturiser.

The prescription-only brand Obagi’s hero products Vitamin C Serum, from £81 (pricey but a little goes a long way) and Hydrate moisturiser, from £39, work together to create supple and luminous skin. Find your nearest Obagi-approved clinic.
