In a Nutshell
Medical evidence suggests it is safer for children to sit facing the rear of the car for as long as possible. This seat lets them do so until aged four – or face forwards from nine months.
The iZi Combi X3 can be fixed to the car with ISOFix mountings or a seatbelt and comes with a support leg as well as a seat-brace attachment. However, it is heavier than many rivals.
The BeSafe is sturdy, yet plush, and boasts cool design ideas, such as a harness that moves up or down as you adjust the headrest. Its sheer height helps little ones to see out of the car.
Hidden magnets helpfully keep those arm straps at bay as you load your cherub into the car and this, frankly, can be a godsend when tangling with a toddler.
This seat cannot be used with a travel system and it’s heavy to hoist from car to car. It’s pricey, too, albeit that the seatbelt-only version of the same model is a little cheaper.

The Pebble is for newborns with an optional ISOFix base (£150 extra) that will also work with the firm’s toddler-sized Pearl model.
