Is it Ok to brag about 'parenting fails'?

To profoundly label your disasters #parentfail is doing none of us a favour

Ok, we get it: being a mum can be hard work and tiring, so what’s wrong with injecting a bit of humour into things?

Well, in theory, nothing, but we’re finding it increasingly hard to comprehend the number of mums who feel the need to share their daily mishaps.

Why do so many of us seem intent on turning our child’s life into some kind of sitcom that catalogues every little thing that goes wrong? Ok, so things don’t always go to plan, but to proudly label your disasters #parentfail is doing none of us a favour.

We know it’s meant to be humble and self-deprecating, and the polar opposite of picture-perfect Instamums, but surely it’s kind of the same thing? No one is sharing the truth, and putting edited highlights of our lives out there doesn’t help anyone.

Also, if somebody else labelled us an ‘incompetent mum’ surely we’d be distraught or furious? So can we try to remember that, while our tots may not be the perfect accessory, neither are they they a figure of fun.

Come on, they’re only little and they’re still learning; let’s let them do it with a bit of dignity.
