Do we need teachers in our nurseries?

Save the Children has called for every nursery in England to have a qualified early years teacher

Nursery

We all know the importance of our children’s early years in terms of their learning and development. However, a report is claiming those early years are even more vital for children’s development than we believe, and more should be done to boost our children's early learning.

The report, written by Save the Children and the Institute of Child Health at University College London, has said that preschool children can be significantly set back if they aren’t adequately stimulated before they start school. It calls for early years teachers to be placed in nurseries in order to give children the best start.

Early years teachers don’t have qualified teacher status like teachers in primary schools, but are required to have certain training and qualifications. The report says these early years teachers could help the children that are already behind in their language abilities before they start school catch up.
