Who would ban children in restaurants?

Is it Ok for adults to demand a ban on children in restaurants?

Childeating

Recently Janet Street-Porter suggested just that – or, at the very least, that children should be restricted to certain times of the day in restaurants or have special areas – like smokers used to have.

Ok, so some parents do allow their children to behave badly in public and we’re not condoning that, but for the most part us mums try to instil good manners in our little ones – so let’s not tar everyone with the same brush.

Tell you what, let’s compromise. Parents will promise not to let little ones run around tripping up waiters and, if they kick off and start screaming, will remove them from the scene until they’ve calmed down. We will also promise never to condone changing a baby’s nappy at the table. (Seriously, how could anyone think that’s acceptable?)

In return, those who are not keen on, or lucky enough, to have children of their own will exercise more tolerance towards tinies who haven’t got to grips with all the rules yet if they emit an excitable scream.

So, are we agreed that if we all behave nicely nobody needs to be banned and we can all get along? Yes?

Good. Now let’s eat, I’m starving.
