Are portrayals of breastfeeding and a lack of information leaving us with unrealistic expectations?

Gisele

With unrealistic images and the glamourisation of breastfeeding, you can end up feeling worried, or even guilty, if it doesn’t all go perfectly peachy.

Yes, breastfeeding can be a beautiful, bonding experience, and is the healthiest way to feed baby. But you’re not always aware of the exhaustion, difficulties, and even pain that can come with breastfeeding, along with guilt-triggering brelfies and the judgement of others.

So when 70 per cent of mums surveyed by breastfeeding brand Medela said they wish they had been given a more realistic picture of what to expect when breastfeeding, we were hardly surprised.

66 per cent wish they had received more information full stop.

Mums want to see a real, honest picture of breastfeeding and more information. We say drop all the pressure and unrealistic expectations and focus on preparing mums instead of judging or criticising!
