The value of the grandparents

The value of the grandparents

We all appreciate when mum or dad come to see their grandchildren and give us a break now and again – but grandma and grandpa-provided childcare could be even more valuable to us than we think.

Grandparents

A survey by Legal & General revealed that grandparents look after their grandchildren for around 7.5 hours a week, without which a third of parents would need to pay for extra childcare.

38 per cent of parents said they would have to change their working hours if they didn't have the support of their parents.

69 per cent said they can only work the hours they do because their parents can help with the childcare, and 87 per cent said their children's grandparents are the best people to look after their children when they're at work.

In fact, without the grandparents helping to look after the little ones, 28 per cent of parents would have to stop working to take care of the children.
