Toys R Us ditches gendering toys

Is this goodbye to all the old-fashioned gender stereotyping in the children’s toy industry?

Huzzah! Toys R Us has finally stopped categorising toys as for 'boys' or for 'girls' online. Apparently they've only just realised girls can like science and boys can like Frozen.

We're fed up of seeing categorising online and in catalogues that suggests everything for girls has to be in some shade of pink and only boys can like building and dinosaurs.

But thanks to the likes of campaigns like Let Toys be Toys, this could signal the end of toy retailers defining what toys boys and girls should be playing with.

They've not exactly been quick off the mark – Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury's, Boots, The Entertainer and TK Maxx have all already agreed to adopt a more unisex approach. But as one of the world's best-known toy retailers, it's one more step in the right direction for the toy industry.
