A personal memoir to celebrate World Down Syndrome day

Deborah French's book A Brief Moment in Time celebrates her experiences with two children with Special Needs to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day

bv news

It's World Down Syndrome day today and we thought it the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate acceptance through a new memoir, A Brief Moment in Time, written by author Deborah French. A mum of four, Deborah has two children with Special Needs: a boy of 10 with Autism Spectrum Disorder and an 8 year old daughter with Down Syndrome.

Deborah gives us her very real account of of how her life changed, at first with emotional turmoil, and then for the better, as she experienced the diagnosis of two children with Special Needs.

As a parent of two children with totally different special needs, my redemption and ability to write my upcoming memoir A Brief Moment in Time came from accepting our lives and our children as our kind of ‘normal’, with no comparisons to others. By not succumbing to the world’s current definition, our family has been able to take steps towards finding contentment. Though our journey is far from complete, it feels great to have found the path and I hope that by sharing my story I will empower other parents to be able to do the same.”
