Goodbye waistline, hello sturdy maternity trousers...

week 21

Some women love the look of their swollen pregnant bellies, but don’t worry if you look at your changing figure with shock; most women go through a stage in pregnancy where they long for their pre-pregnancy figure back.

At week 21, your baby is roughly the same length as a banana and she will be twice the length she is now (about 20cm) when she is born. Although your baby’s growth rate has slowed down her heartbeat gets stronger each day and her hearing improves. Your baby will be able to hear as soon as she is born and may turn towards your voice when she hears you speak.

She recognises your voice from hearing it in the womb, so make sure you talk as much as possible to your growing bump.

Your baby's eyelids and eyelashes have now fully formed and amazingly in week 21, she can blink! Don't forget your baby can hear you now so sing, talk and read aloud to your bump. You may feel silly, but soon you'll get used to have little conversations with the little person growing inside you (can you imagine that in three years time you'll be having actual conversation with this little person about monsters or fairies or most likely chocolate buttons?).
