Your baby is 33 weeks old!

Can you believe you’ve had your baby for almost as long as you were pregnant for! It has probably gone a lot faster than your pregnancy did. Don’t forget to write down all the dates of when your baby hits certain milestones, what her first word was and when she cut her first tooth. She will love to read back on her first year when she is older. At 33 weeks your baby will love to play with a ball and may roll it back and forwards between you. Her toys are coming into their own as she finally works out what to do with them (pressing buttons to make noise or lifting flaps in books to find hidden animals).

Your baby this week

Many nine month olds will get the hang of crawling this month. Although crawling is an important milestone for your baby to reach, some babies never crawl and skip straight to walking. Crawling is an optional skill and your baby’s overall development will not be halted if she shows no interest in crawling.  It is worth remembering that most babies will crawl at some point, from about nine months onwards.

There are many benefits to crawling because it helps to improve your baby’s vital motor skills, visual and physical ability and improves the strength in her limbs and upper body. Babies who never crawl often end up as proficient early walkers so don’t worry that your baby will never learn to walk because she shows no interest in crawling.

You this week

You’ve probably become more lapse with sterilising as the months go on, especially when your 33 week old baby spends most of her time with her head in the carpet eating whatever is on the floor! Don’t worry too much about the germs she may pick up on the floor of your home because they are germs she has been exposed to, in fact it will probably help to make her immunity stronger.

With that said, obviously keeping your home clean and hoovered is best for your baby. Try not to let her eat anything that has been wet, like saliva on bits of bread that have been dropped and are lying around for instance. If she drops something like a toy or dummy on the bathroom floor or in a puddle, it can breed bacteria so make sure you clean anything that falls.
