Competitive mums are no longer accepting the tired, make-up free baby birth pics. A growing number of women are booking hairdressers and make-up artists to come to their hospital rooms postpartum to prep them for post-baby pics.

Mums are being preened and pampered straight after delivery to look their best for mother and baby photos, taking full-time grooming to a whole new level.

Kate Middleton's post-baby blowout, not a hair out of place after giving birth to Princess Charlotte, is being cited as just one of the examples fuelling the need to look good after labour.

You can't blame new mums for wanting to look good in the pictures everyone is going to see, and wanting to feel good after the experience of labour – sometimes it's as little as a bit of dry shampoo and spritzed water, and a spot of natural make-up. But let's not turn labour into a beauty pageant!
