Your baby is 44 weeks old!
Your baby this week
You may witness your baby doing a spot of multi-tasking as he picks a toy up at the same time as sitting or pulling himself up. It wasn’t that long ago that one task would baffle him and make him cry. You may also notice that your baby is an excellent communicator even though he can’t talk yet. He will go through a series of points, arms gestures and babbles just to tell you he wants more water! Soon he will begin to form words you can recognise, but for now you can both use your instincts to understand each other.
Talking and comprehension
By month eleven your baby will probably understand a few words used to identify things, for example, cup, bottle, bird or car. He still uses one word to express how he feels so when he utters ‘cup’ it can mean, ‘I am hungry’, ‘I am thirsty’, ‘or I have finished my milk’. The same goes for objects. If he can say ‘Dog’ he may say dog to all animals he sees, because that is the only word he knows to express seeing an animal. You can help by saying, ‘yes good boy, it looks like a dog but it is a cat’ so he learns the names for other animals.
