Your toddler is 4 years and 9 months old!
Your child is developing motor skills with the use of music and beats. Most children this age enjoy dancing and moving to rhythm. Your child is actually very well coordinated by this stage and may enjoy taking part in a dance class or movement class. Children at this stage enjoy throwing and catching and have the skills and posture that is needed to be successful with these activities. Your child is still very energetic and will enjoy jumping and running. Although they might get a little mischievous at times and end up fighting or playing roughly, this is all very normal in their social development. Along with all of the fun, your child will probably be able to sit still for short periods of time without getting fidgety and restless.
Your child is coherent and has solid ideas about what they want to do. They can express themselves without hesitation and know the words that they need to describe their thoughts. Their ideas often revolve around themselves because just like a couple of months ago, they are still very focused only on themselves. Your child will also think that their ideas are the best ideas. Your child is becoming a planner and wants to stay busy but will also plan before beginning a project or an activity. They have an increased attention span that can last up to 30 minutes.
Your child is much more confident and will copy adults to act very grown up. They know about different rules and regulations and will both obey these and challenge them as well as taking pride in explaining them to others. Your child still plays in groups but is less competitive, and the pretend play is more realistic and less fantastic. Although your child is more independent, they are probably more sensitive and will be affected easily by teasing and name calling. Your child loves being with you and other adults and is also very social - no matter how old your toddler is, he will still enjoy a cuddle before bed.
