Can you believe that it was 1978 when The Snowman was published? We can’t!
And it seems even more remarkable that the story has such an emotional depth and is loved around the world by young and old alike, when actually, the book didn’t even have any words in it!
The book tells the magical story of a boy who looks out of his window one night to see that the snowman he built in his garden has come to life. Perfectly capturing the wonder and innocence of childhood, The Snowman has become a timeless classic and an intrinsic part of the British Christmas, especially thanks to the magical animation, first broadcast on television in 1982. The sweeping soundtrack by Howard Davies also produced the beautiful song ‘Walking in the Air’, which became a hit single for Aled Jones.
Again this year, generations will sit down together to enjoy The Snowman and its sequel, The Snowman and The Snowdog.
